Words from past CFAT artists:

  • I feel very lucky to have participated in CFAT's paid 6-month Virtual Reality Artist Residency. As a predominantly traditional painter, I was curious and inspired by the virtual reality artwork I had seen. Having the opportunity to delve into the world of media art and work with video game development software for virtual reality was an exciting and scary challenge. CFAT provided an immersive learning environment that was supported by cutting-edge technology and the expertise of Riss, Seamus, Jesse, and Paloma. I finished the program having created a VR experience I was proud of, which was showcased at MSVU Gallery with the assistance of David and Claire. The whole experience has truly empowered my confidence in exploring new possibilities in my creative expression.

Kayza Degraff-Ford - 2023 VR Artist in Residence

  • CFAT was instrumental in my early development as a new media artist, where I had the opportunity to learn 3D and VR skills during a residency there in 2022. Having unlimited access to equipment and fully paid opportunities are rare for emerging artists, and without this residency I strongly believe would not be the artist I am today. Staff go above and beyond to provide personalized support to their community and they do an amazing job of creating accessible, inclusive spaces for media arts. CFAT is a truly special place.

Hailey Guzik - 2022 VR Artist in Residence

  • The Centre for Art Tapes is a fantastic organization. The staff are accommodating, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and helpful. In my time as a Video Artist in Residence, and now thanks to my continuing membership, I've had a blast working with the wonderful wide array of equipment and facilities that CFAT has to offer, learning and experimenting with various programs and gadgets and gizmos. I have never worked anywhere where I felt more supported in my exploration and development as an artist. I love CFAT!New List Item
