Remuneration: ($35/h, 24 hours a week)

Anticipated Start Date: November 4th, 2024

The Centre for Art Tapes is teaming up with arts collective Tough Guy Mountain for a Virtual Reality Internship. The intern will participate in the studio's development of an experimental video game for virtual reality and desktop. Applicants with experience in any of the following areas are encouraged to apply: 3D level design in Unity, 2D digital animation, or audio/sound design. They will participate in the holistic process of video game production, contributing to an in-production process to be released through the internet.  Please note that this position is funded through the Digital Skills for Youth Program. Please see eligibility criteria below.

From November 4th to March 26th, the intern will have a dedicated 24/h studio space in CFAT and unlimited access to all of our equipment and facilities. Please reach out to production@cfat.ca if you have any more questions about our resources.

The intern will be mentored by the three members of the arts collective Tough Guy Mountain (TGM). TGM is the collective practice of Cat Bluemke, Jonathan Carroll, and Iain Soder. Together they create interactive performances, comics, and video games about unpaid internships. The collective began working together in 2012 while still in art school. TGM integrates emerging technologies like virtual and augmented reality with performance and puppetry practices, highlighting the alienating aspects of digital technology through playful narratives of internal struggles realized as split executive-intern character persona.

  • a cover letter outlining your interest in this position.

  • An example of a project demonstrating applicable skills. (a link to a video recording would be ideal, please do not send large files)

ABOUT  CFAT:

CFAT is an artist-driven media art presentation and production centre; our aim is to support the enjoyment, creation and preservation of experimental contemporary media art practices. Our members and collaborating/exhibiting artists are working in media such as video art, experimental sound, animation, filmmaking, electronic and digital art, and media/interactive installation. We take a broad interpretation of the term “media art” aligning ourselves with its genesis from visual art as opposed to film. CFAT values presentation and research in tandem and places an emphasis on programming that furthers the professional development of its exhibiting artists.
